Netflix Partners With All Movie Guide To Serve As Preferred DVD Rental Store
Agreement Provides AMG Users With Convenient Access To More Than 2,600 DVD Titles
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., (January 7, 1999) -- Netflix (www.netflix.com), the world's first and largest online DVD rental store, today announced a preferred partnership with the All-Movie Guide (AMG), that lets consumers directly access Netflix's wide selection of DVD movies through the popular movie reviews and filmographies on the AMG Web site (www.allmovie.com). AMG visitors can easily browse and order from Netflix's selection of more than 2,500 DVD titles, all of which are available for rent.
"The All Movie Guide site offers more information on movies and more different kinds of movies than any other online source," said Marc B. Randolph, president of Netflix. "We are delighted to partner with AMG and provide its visitors with the easiest way to rent the DVD movies that the All Movie Guide reviews."
"AMG is delighted to partner with Netflix, the pioneer in DVD rental and related movie information on the Web," said Michael Erlewine, president of the All-Media Guide. "Through this association, we can now offer AMG users the opportunity to rent or purchase DVD titles directly from the All Movie Guide site, something for which they have been asking."
The preferred agreement with AMG strengthens Netflix's position as the world's leading online DVD rental store. Since its Internet debut on April 14, 1998, Netflix has announced a string of partnerships with key players in the DVD industry. Netflix has partnered with hardware providers Sony, Toshiba, Pioneer, Apple and Hewlett-Packard to give purchasers of DVD hardware the chance to obtain free DVD movie rentals online. Previously, the online company supported Warner Home Video's DVD release of the Academy Award®-winning film L.A. Confidential with an Internet-based sweepstakes.
Users can access the Netflix online store via direct links within the movie listings on the AMG site. When browsing through AMG's comprehensive catalog of reviews, Web surfers will find links from every movie that is available on DVD to the Netflix site. Selecting these links will immediately take consumers to the corresponding movie page at Netflix, where they can choose to rent or reserve the DVD.
Netflix is the world's first and largest online DVD rental store. The Netflix online store, located at www.netflix.com, carries virtually every DVD movie-- currently numbering more than 2,600 titles -- and rents them to owners of DVD video players and DVD-ROM equipped PCs. In addition to offering its customers the world's largest selection of DVD movies, Netflix provides 7-day rentals, same-day-shipping to anywhere in the United States, easy-to-use search features, advance movie reservations, and multi-rental discounts. By focusing on online rentals, Netflix is pioneering a new online retail model and e-commerce category. Founded in 1997, Netflix is headquartered in Scotts Valley, California.
