This is I

Synopsis
Kenji, who has dreamed of becoming an idol since he was young, grows up struggling with his sense of self and shying away from the judgmental eyes of others. Bullied at school and unable to open up to his family, he eventually finds acceptance among the colorful performers at a cabaret bar he began working at without telling his parents. He debuts on the bar's stage under a new name: Ai.
Shortly afterward, Ai has a fateful encounter with a doctor named Koji Wada.
Wada, who is tormented by the guilt of being unable to save past patients, comes to understand Ai's distress and decides to step into the then-taboo world of gender-affirming surgery. He applies himself to research despite conflicted feelings and societal biases and makes Ai his first patient to undergo the procedure.
Unwavering in his beliefs despite facing prejudice, Dr. Wada dwells on the true meaning of healthcare as he helps with Kenji's transition and decides to support his patient unconditionally. Through the decision to undergo gender-affirming surgery, Ai chooses to live life as her authentic self.
The pair form an unbreakable bond of trust as they experience a sense of overwhelming loneliness from the resulting societal backlash and criticism.
They support each other through this isolation and discover a path to living life on their own terms.
