Netflix ISP Speed Index for April 2018
Here are some highlights from the April data for the Netflix ISP Speed Index, our monthly update on which Internet Service Providers (ISPs) provide the best primetime Netflix streaming experience.
Several ISPs in Asia saw significant speed gains in April. The biggest speed increase on the index this month went to Indonesia’s Indosat-Fibre. The ISP saw speeds jump to 4.16 Megabits per second (Mbps), an increase of 0.76 Mbps from its previous monthly average of 3.40 Mbps in March.
Telekom Malaysia Berhad in Malaysia saw speeds climb by 0.54 Mbps, increasing its average monthly speed to 2.97 Mbps (up from 2.43 Mbps the month prior). This increase helped bolster Malaysia up ten spots to 32nd in our country rankings. Taiwan Mobile in Taiwan and Neuviz in Indonesia also saw some improvements. Taiwan Mobile’s speeds jumped to 2.58 Mbps (up from 2.14 Mpbs in March) and Neuviz’s speeds climbed to 2.66 Mbps (up from 2.24 Mbps in March).
South Korea moved up four spots to 43rd in our country rankings, with help from speed increases at D LIVE and LG U+. Speeds at D LIVE jumped to 3.20 Mbps (up from 2.79 Mbps in March) and LG U+ saw speeds improve to a 2.76 Mbps monthly average (up from 2.35 Mbps last month).
The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of primetime Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.
